Prediction: Mets Cuts This Week

These are just my gut feeling, nothing more.

SP – Oliver Perez – I predicted earlier this week that he will be cut tomorrow, which I still think is going to happen. It’s almost criminal to keep giving this guy innings that others could be throwing to help make their case for making the 25-man. Everyone knows he’s gone, so why not now?

2B – Luis Castillo –  Castillo has played the best he can this spring and he would easily make this team if he was either 29-years old or making $2mil a year. The Mets are going nowhere this year and this is a position they can field cheap with both Daniel Murphy and Brad Emaus, who are both waiting to see if Reese Havens can play 2011 injury free.

2B – Justin Turner –  it’s time to begin to field who you’re going to keep come April 1st, and Turner has no chance of going north then. The Mets could wait a week before returning him to the minor league side of the complex, but, then again…

RP – Jason Isringhausen – look, it was fun having Izzy around and he looks great, but the LOOGY looks locked up with Tim Bydak, so there really is no reason to keep a 38-year old on the 25-man.

OF Jason Pridie – this looks like a full cut, rather than a return to the monor league side…  there’s no room for him in Buffalo this season.

OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis – he will be returned to the minor side after an underwhelming spring.

RP Taylor Tankersley – another full cut

C Kai Gronauer – Kai’s had fun. but it’s time to return him to the minors side so he can work out with the pitchers he’s going to catch this season.

SP Tobi Stoner –  the easy move will be to DL him again as he still is recovering from surgery…  the harder move is to release him which would be, IMO, the right move

RP Mike O’Connor – will be reassigned to Buffalo.
