Please correct me id I'm wrong, but weren't you one of the first to repeat the North Jersey.com false story on Santana? I recall seeing your headline pretty early on, and felt it not worth clicking in light of the circumstances which seemed questionable from the get-go.

The problems these days is the heightened desire to be the first to announce this or that, or get in on the action as soon as someone else makes some noise.

This is the problem - media and blogging as competitive sport, one-source citing, making mistakes, spreading rumor, annoying players and management, misleading fans. Better to get it right than let ego get in the way of accuracy. Why should I believe Rubin's single source on the same day Collins praised Castillo for his good play the last several? Just two days ago Collins was none too pleased that Steve Popper, based on single source, said some things that those involved strongly dispute. Rubin's had good enough track record, but not immune from errors.

The industry as a whole, including bloggers, lose credibility when the prime mission is being the first to say this or that based on single source, with no verification from other outlets using their own sources.

Yeah, none of it makes any sense to me.

I'm some shlep in South Carolina who is paying extra for the service. What service? To watch a 10pm recap show on info I already know?

One of the suits on my local cable company offers no explanation but has told me that the phone is off the hook with pissed off ex-NYCers that live in Hilton Head and now pay for this stealth service. Naturally, they get the bad press.

The blackouts are most likely because the guys behind MLB extra innings have all out of market broadcast rights....which means that you are still effed whenever the Mets have a Saturday game which isn't being shown on Fox (or even if it is, but they instead broadcast a different game in your market).

Don't forget Justin Turner, who probably starts at 2B in Buffalo if he doesn't win the job in Queens. Also, MLB games are always blacked out beyond the boundaries of a team's TV market. You have to get the Extra Innings package to see them. Same goes for NHL and NBA games.

Mack,
I live in the southern part of Virginia and I have the same problem with SNY. What's disappointing is that once you order the mlb package then that unlocks the Mets games on SNY. The blackout goes beyond just Mets games. If you want to watch any of the games that are replayed at night or any of the Mets Classics games or shows you can forget it because they are blacked out as well. Before congress got involved I was able to use New York as my local channels package since I didn't live next to any major city but congress ruined that as well and now I'm stuck getting Raleigh and Richmond stations and can no longer order wpix.
